|
In its final years of
automobile production, Russell scaled back further and
also attempted to gain ground in the medium priced
market with their "Six - 30" model.
Russell-Knight models were the four cylinder 32 and
the six cylinder 48. A Six-30 Cabriolet was introduced,
advertised especially for doctors and others who
require year round travel. The cabriolet could
be converted into an open car "on a moment's notice."
In 1916, the Six - 30 was renamed to as the Light Six, at a reduced price, with a few differences from the Six-30. The Six-30 had used a Bijur starter and generator while the Light Six now used Westinghouse. Also, 1916 ads for the Light Six indicate that it had a 224 cu. in. (3 1/4 x 4 1/2) Continental engine. There is no documentation for the size of the engine in the Six-30, but the car shown on this page has a Continental 6N 289 cu. in. (3 1/2 x 5) engine. It appears that the cheaper car of 1916 had a smaller engine than its predecessor. One photo of a 1916 Russell has been found and shows a car that is visibly the same as a 1915 Six - 30, except that the hood has no louvers and the running board splash aprons are plain. |
