Grade 5M - Mrs. Munro's Class

Our thoughts about Winnipeg

We love Winnipeg. We do have crazy things happening with the weather-last year we had a wild blizzard but, hey, we did get to miss 2 days of school. We had the flood of the century but we had a great time babysitting plants and raising money for relief and the whole province really was right out there. Last summer lots of houses and cars were damaged by baseball sized hail stones but many of us got new roofs, cars, picture windows, lights, and fences painted .

Some of the interesting places kids like to visit in Winnipeg are the Forks where you can actually see where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet, the Children's Museum, the Red River Ex in June, Ruckers and Dark Zone.

There's lots of nature in the city . We even have deer wandering through people's yards near our beautiful Assiniboine Park.

Lots of Winnipeg students run in the MB Marathon as part of a relay team. We miss the Jets but the MB Moose are doing fine. The Goldeyes baseball team almost made first in the northern league. The Bombers might be getting their act together starting by beating BC.

The class has been having a lot of fun learning about Canada as we track this car trip. On Saturday, 6 families from our class went to Speedy Muffler and finally got to see the car. We had put up a 5 meter map in the back of the class so we could track Peter and the Reo from his daily internet reports. It was exciting to finally talk to Peter Findlay in person instead of just by email. He came back to our neighbourhood where he could get onto the internet and there was lots of excitement when he arrived at the school on Monday and lots of noise as we honked the old fashioned Reo horn. The experience was so exciting we don't think anyone in the class will ever forget it.
