On Saturday afternoon the Reo stopped in at the Pembina Hwy. Speedy Auto Centre where the travellers were greeted by Ms. Rosemary Vodrey, M.L.A., Manitoba Minister of Heritage. Also on hand were Speedy Auto Service Territory Manager Todd Westwood and Pembina Manager Len Derrin. Members of the Manitoba Classic and Antique Auto Club displayed their fine cars, and Speedy provided a tasty BBQ for all who were present. Several very enthusiastic students from Bonnycastle Elementary School were also present. The students have been following the Reo's progress on the World Wide Web and were pleased to be able to see it "in person."
On Saturday evening the Findlays and John Nicol were special guests at the Manitoba Classic and Antique Auto Club's annual awards banquet. Lorne Findlay gave a brief account of the 1912 and 1997 trips and was presented with a special plaque commemorating the Reo's arrival in Winnipeg. The club members were excellent hosts and, once again, the Findlays and John Nicol were welcomed as if they were part of the family. Each new welcome brings new friends and reminders of all the new friendships that have been made along the way.
Sunday morning the Findlays attended morning worship services led by Dr. Todd Sojonky at Broadway First Baptist Church and passed on greeting from First Baptist, Vancouver. They were pleased to be able at attend this church and particularly enjoyed the music of the handbell choir.
The remainder of the day was spent touring Manitoba's capital city and visiting with new friends. It was a relaxing day off for the cross-country travellers.
