Frequently Asked Questions

Students are invited to Email their questions to Peter Findlay.

How long have you had the Reo?
Lorne Findlay purchased the Reo in 1980. The car had recently been removed from a barn where it had sat for fifty years.

Why did you decide to make this trip?
Being an avid automotive historian, Lorne Findlay had been aware of the first trans-Canada auto trip for many years. When he got an opportunity to purchase his own 1912 Reo, he began planning for the day when he and his Reo would make the same historic journey.

What kind of gas does the Reo use?
The Reo is quite happy with regular unleaded gasoline. In 1912, gasoline did not have any additives (not even lead).

How many miles are on the car?
The Reo has driven about 26000 original miles.

Is this the actual car that was used in the 1912 trip?
No, just the same make, year, and model.

Where is the gas tank?
The tank is under the right front seat cushion.

How do you get tires for the Reo?
The 34 inch tires are readily available from several american tire companies.

How fast will you be driving?
We'll be travelling between 30 and 50 kilometres per hour.

How will you keep your website current while you're away?
We will hook up by phone each evening and send the day's events back via the internet.

What if something goes wrong with the car?
We carry many spare parts and we have a good network of old car enthusiasts across the country who could be called upon to help out.

What is the round tank on the left running board?
The tank holds acetylene gas for the headlights.
